Starcraft Cheats & Hacks
StarCraft has been one of the most popular Real-Time-Strategies. Developed by Blizzard, the makers of the WarCraft series, StarCraft took the principles of WarCraft and added a futuristic spin to it. Unfortunatly, hackers have created cheats for players to use to get an unfair advantage over their opponents.
Map Hack
While playing StarCraft, at the bottom left corner of your screen is the mini-map. When you move your units around the map, more is revealed. Hackers have created a hack that will allow you to see all of the map, no matter what. As a result, the cheater can see his opponent at the very beginning of the game, can watch him build up his units, and can rush right to him to destroy their base. There are various ways that can detect a cheater, various tools has things to show whether someone has map hack on or not, some maps also have a counter that raises if a player uses map hack and than will "end the scenario in defeat" for the player, simply by having a spot where if a player can see will raise the counter. The anti-map hacker addition is not included in the original campain editor, a specail editor is needed. Or you can report a hacker to B.net
Lag hack
This hack is extremely annoting in the fact that it creates massive amounts of lag in the game, making it almost completely unplayable for others. The idea of this hack is to get everyone to leave the game, thus, giving the person using the hack, a win. I haven't heard of many people using this hack in 1.09.
Name Change Hack
This here is rather self-explanitory, as it changes your name. There are 2 versions of this, the first one (which has already been patched against), added color to your name, which caused other players to drop upon entering the actual game. The second one simply changes your name when you enter the game. This is nothing more than a display error and you shouldn't worry too much about it. Its harmless in the long run.
Mineral & Gas / Speed Hack
Allows a player to have unlimited Minerals and Gas, as well as being able to build and move faster.
Building Glitches
In Version 1.08 and below there existed a glitch that allowed players using the Terran race to build in air as well as build on top of other ground units. The problem with this was people were building on top of Siege Tanks, making them a lot harder to get to, as an opponent had to destroy the building on top first. Since then it has, of course, been patched.
There are also various other glitches in starcraft, lots of them you can see in "Can You Do The
Trick Maps"
Disconnect Hack
The disconnect hack is a very annoying tool used by people who generally suck horribly at the game. This hack does NOT lag the opponent out of the game, but the person who is actually USING the hack. Why would it do that you ask? Well, in most cases it doesn't give the person a loss, but rather a disconnect, or, in some cases, nothing. And it is especially a pain fo r the opponent because it doesn't give THEM anything either. This has been detected before, if you see someone using this hack take a screenshot (Print Scrn Button) and send it to Blizzard.
Drop Hack
This is a rather nasty little hack in which a user whispers you a short line of text that in turn makes your game crash. The easiest way to ignore this is to put on DND, or, if you have people on your friends list, do /o igw (ignore whispers from non-friends). A warning to people who would try to download this hack, most of them are either infected by trojans, keyloggers, or both.
"Cheat Enabled" Notice
Its imporant to know that there is no way to enable in-game hacks in multiplayer mode. However, sometimes you may see a little message pop up as if someone has. The message of course, will read "Cheat Enabled" in the center of the screen. It is typically the newbies who fall for this trick, as they get so excited they fail to look to the left to see that someone is actually typing the message. In the end, if you see this message, it is meerly some fool trying to take you for a newb by hitting space a bunch of times and typing Cheat Enabled.
"Saving Virus to ..." Notice
Many people are unaware of a nice feature in the game that allows you to save a multiplayer game so you may play it in Custom mode later. A lot of lamers, however have decided to take advantage of that fact, in order to scare people. It works like this, you join a game, and some fool starts talking trash, and then you see a message box pop up; "Saving Virus to Your Hard Drive" or something simlar to that. Because of this save feature, this message pops up on ALL players screens, where the title of the game they are saving appears after the word "Saving." Therefor, when someone saves a game in multiplayer mode, the actual title of what they are saving it as is what is appearing, and you are NOT getting a virus. It is virtually impossible to send a virus to someone through Starcraft, or even Battle.net at all.
"Win Bot" Warning
Even as the game gets older and older many people feel the need to be ranked #1 on the ladder, because of this some people have decided to take advantage of people looking for the easy way out. With this in mind, if you ever come across a message telling you to download "Win Bot," or a program that gives you free wins, do not do it, all programs that are labeled as such are meerly virii, and trojans. One might say that if you are trying to cheat the system by getting free wins, and you end up getting a virus in return, you deserve it...
Blizzard's Stance on Hacking
It should be known that Blizzards "anti-cheat" policy doesn't generally extend to Diablo I, Warcraft II:BNE, or Starcraft: BroodWar, as the games are older and no longer updated. However, if you do encounter someone who hacks, the best policy would be to contact Blizzard. They will look into it.
Check the F.A.Q. section of Counter Hack concerning hacks with Battle Net. It was written by Blizzard, and demonstrates their policies and standards with cheating and hacking.
